Student Passes National Exams, Throws Results in Toilet After Fearing she Got Zero.

A girl studying at Rwikiniro Primary School, a school located in Rwimbogo Sector in Gatsibo District, took a Literature in English exam. When she realized that the questions she was asked without knowing could result in a zero, she stole the exam and threw it in the toilet.

This happened on Monday, July 14, 2025, when language students were taking the Literature exam. While others were taking it, one of the female language students at GS Rwikiniro looked at the exam they were given and realized that she could no longer do it and decided to skip it.

The Executive Secretary of Rwimbogo Sector, Musonera Emmanuel, told Goallnews.com that the student skipped the answers she had given on the Literature exam after realizing that she might get a zero and that other students would laugh at her. He said, “she was a child who was taking the exam and realized that she could not pass the questions asked of her and that she failed. Then, when the exam was over, instead of giving the answers while the questions were still there (Questionnaire) the teachers thought he had given while the answers were still there, she took the rest and threw it in the toilet.”

Gitifu Musonera continued by saying that when teachers and other supervisors at the exam site were checking to see if all students had submitted copies with answers, they discovered that one student was missing from the school. They checked carefully and found that a girl had submitted a copy of the questions. “When asked about the child, the student explained that the reason she tore up the exam was because she had not completed any questions in the allotted time, so she thought she would be criticized by her peers.”

The principal said that the girl has now returned to take the remaining exams and that no other problems were found. Currently, more than 255,000 students are taking the state exams across Rwanda, with 149,134 taking the final exams for the general level. In the second level, 106,364 students are taking the exams
